I had the privilege of participating as a panellist at the White Ribbon Day breakfast co-hosted by Premier Palaszczuk and Dame Quentin Bryce in Brisbane today.
The event was sold out and was a tremendous opportunity to build awareness and momentum around eliminating this scourge from our society and our business.
At Aurizon we are committed to a safe workplace and one which is diverse and inclusive. We know that many of our employees as well as many people in the communities in which we work will be or have been subject to domestic violence, and we are determined to do our part to eliminate this horrific part of our society.
I recently read Rosie Batty's book "A Mother's Story" which tells the story of the terrible events leading to the murder of her son. It is a remarkable story and Rosie is a remarkable lady, and I would encourage everyone if you have not done so to read the book to learn more about this insidious but pervasive part of our society.
As part of White Ribbon Day I have also taken an oath along with the Queensland Male Champions of Change to stand up, speak out & act to prevent violence against women in this video: http://ow.ly/V2QKa.
