From the teacher to an apprentice
From a primary school teacher, to a vocational education trainer and a mentor to high risk high school students, Matt's career has been extremely varied.
It took another path when in January 2013 he started at Aurizon's Redbank Rollingstock Maintenance Depot as an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter.
Every day Matt has the opportunity to learn from experienced and specialised trade staff. He is often blown away about the size of the locomotives he works on and the equipment needed to maintain running checks and overhaul engines.
Matt is also part of Aurizon's next generation of leaders, participating in the Indigenous Leadership Program earlier this year and co-hosting the company's NAIDOC week celebrations.
For Matt one of the best parts about working at Aurizon is the safety culture. As a family man, it is incredibly important to Matt to go home after every shift, in the same way he came to work.
