Aurizon has announced a two year partnership with the Clontarf Foundation to assist in improving the education, life skills and employment prospects of young Aboriginal men across Australia.
The partnership was announced today at Aurizon's NAIDOC week celebration held in Brisbane.
Aurizon Managing Director & CEO, Lance Hockridge said the Company is pleased to support the Clontarf Foundation in its important work with young Aboriginal men.
"Aurizon is proud of the work we are doing to support Indigenous employment and Indigenous communities.
"The Clontarf Foundation has had national success delivering positive results in helping young indigenous men embrace healthy work and lifestyle outcomes.
"As a signatory on the Australian Employment Covenant, we are aiming to boost sustainable employment for Indigenous Australians."
The Clontarf Foundation CEO, Gerard Neesham said Aurizon's support will be critical to the continued success of the Foundation.
"Since opening in 2000 we have grown to cater for around 3,700 boys in more than 60 schools across Western Australia, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Victoria and Queensland. Without support from companies like Aurizon, the Foundation would not have achieved this kind of success.
"We use Australian Rules and Rugby League as the vehicle for success, attracting young Aboriginal boys to school and into the Academy. The boys who volunteer for the Academy must attend school regularly, apply themselves in study and embrace the school culture. Upon completion, we assist graduates to find employment opportunities."
At the NAIDOC celebration, Aurizon also announced an Indigenous job ready program, a ten week program preparing high potential males and females for apprenticeship and trainee roles within the Company.
