About the role: We are looking to fill a key Senior role within the rollingstock engineering team. This position will be based at Aurizon’s Stuart Depot in Townsville supporting all Bulk East. This includes 80 active locos and over 1,800 active wagons along with several maintenance and support facilities, terminals, and other operational assets.  

As a Senior Engineer you will be responsible for working to transform maintenance practices, provide subject matter expertise and innovation projects that will shape the rail industry for years to come.

Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Organise and plan the technical aspects of highly complex mechanical engineering projects including the design and preparation of user requirement specifications, material and component specifications, safety in design requirements for new and altered works.
  • Develop and coordinate technical aspects and strategies for new technology and techniques applicable to mechanical engineering systems and networks.
  • Design, checking and auditing of highly complex mechanical engineering systems submitted by design team and or external providers.
  • Organise and prepare the associated documentation, user requirements, system requirements, installation procedures, verification and validation, testing and commissioning, asset handover, type approval, maintenance procedures for mechanical engineering systems

About you:

We are looking for an experienced professional in rollingstock or heavy industry. An engineering degree is essential, your ability to provide professional leadership and expert engineering and technical advice will be highly regarded as will your ability to provide leadership in the development and maintenance of mechatronic engineering standards and specifications.

Most of all, we want you to not only love what you do, but to come in, work with your team to take a pragmatic approach to solving complex problems, generate new ideas and thinking, challenge the status quo and be challenged.
