About the role:

Reporting into the Manager Civil Infrastructure, this is a key role in the Civil Network Operations Leadership team covering both Moranbah Depot and Merinda Depot based in Bowen. The Superintendent is required to be a natural leader and will have a transparent, supportive, and passionate attitude towards their work. Supporting your supervisors to build capable track maintenance teams, this role has a strong focus on coaching and mentoring to maximise operational and network efficiency by focusing on safety, people, volume, reliability and cost. 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Manage financial and operational budgets, resources, on time performance and safety.
  • Manage, lead and set priorities around scheduled, unscheduled, response and emergency requirements as designated.
  • Provide coaching, expert advice and support to direct reports to achieve performance objectives, promote high performance teams and support continuous improvement activities.
  • Apply conceptual and analytical skills to enhance and optimise delivery of services on time and in full by driving productivity and process improvements to meet performance standards.
  • Embrace and drive workplace culture and change by providing expert advice and assistance to the Manager.
  • Effectively communicate, negotiate, and consult with managers, direct reports, teams, customers/stakeholders and others as required.

About you:

Ideally you will have a background within the rail industry, with knowledge of track assets and best practices a preference. You have extensive frontline leadership experience within an operational environment, partnered with understanding the challenges of working in a remote location. You understand that rail assets should be understood as long-term investments and managed accordingly to ensure optimum performance and lowest life-cycle cost.

  • Proven experience in maintenance operations of operational or transportation assets.
  • Operational business management skills including, financial and budget control, complex problem solving and analytical thinking to respond to dynamic and changing business needs.
  • High level of operational management and leadership skills with a proven capability to develop and implement relevant systems and achieve targets.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with diverse work groups.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to communicate cross functionally.
  • The role is permanently based in Moranbah or Bowen which is non-negotiable, and the successful applicant will be expected to base themselves there. 
  • Moranbah, there is an offering for $27k housing allowance payment.
