Aurizon Manager Awarded 2018 Social Leader of the Year
Aurizon’s Brand and Sponsorships Manager, April Whittam, was awarded the Social Leader of the Year at last week’s 2018 Women in Industry Awards.
The award recognises individuals who have significantly effected positive change within their local or regional community.
April has been instrumental in creating and implementing our flagship corporate social responsibility program, the Aurizon Community Giving Fund. Our program launched in 2011 and has provided cash grants to more than 300 charities and community groups in the areas where we operate.
With operations spanning many regional areas, the objective of the program is to give back to our local communities by supporting charities and community groups in the areas of health and wellbeing, community safety, environment and education.
April said she was honoured to receive the award given the calibre of the other nominees.
“I am grateful to lead Aurizon’s work that supports and helps charities in our local and regional communities.
“While personally, I am passionate about corporate social responsibility, this award reflects a broader team of people who deliver this program across our communities.”
Last week, we were also proud to be recognised as a finalist in the Queensland Community Foundation’s Corporate Philanthropist of the Year Award for our Community Giving Fund. This award recognises businesses that create a culture of philanthropy and demonstrate an outstanding commitment to philanthropy.
Aurizon’s Community Giving Fund offers cash grants of up to $20,000 twice yearly to eligible charities and community groups. We will be announcing the successful recipients of the latest round of our Community Giving Fund in the coming weeks.
