Diverse Careers Delivered Through Our Graduate Program
Meet Renee Johnson. Renee joined Aurizon’s Graduate Program seven years ago and has since built a diverse and successful career within our business. Renee shares her story.
When looking at graduate positions towards the end of my degree I was keen to work for a market leading ASX company with a structured graduate program. I wanted to work for a company that would give me exposure to various parts of its operations, in various locations, in a supportive environment.
In 2011, I commenced my career with Aurizon as a HR Graduate and since then have worked in a wide variety of roles. I have worked in HR business partnering roles supporting both corporate and operational areas, giving me broad insight across Aurizon.
I then moved into the specialist area of Employee Relations where I was part of the Enterprise Agreement Bargaining team responsible for negotiating the first Queensland Enterprise Agreements since Aurizon became a publically listed Company.
I've always had the desire to move into an operational role, so when the opportunity arose to move into a Department Manager position at Aurizon’s workshops in Redbank, Queensland, I jumped at the chance. I thoroughly enjoyed the leadership experience and operational knowledge I gained through working with the Redbank team.
In 2014, I relocated to Newcastle as a Regional Operations Leader seeking to grow my leadership experience in a different part of the business. This experience enabled me to better understand the key interplay between functions within the business and the importance of these relationships in delivering the best outcome for our customers, shareholders and employees.
In 2017 I relocated back to Brisbane to undertake the role of Regional Maintenance Superintendent at Acacia Ridge.
Since commencing as a graduate seven years ago, Aurizon has provided me the opportunity to experience a range of jobs in different work environments across the country, and these diverse opportunities have laid the foundation for my career.
I encourage anyone looking to work for a company that can provide a wide range of career development opportunities to consider Aurizon's Graduate Program.
