Contracted Rail Safety Workers accessing rail corridors

As Australia’s largest rail freight operators, Aurizon understands the importance of working with industry to align training and competency requirements, so far as is reasonably practicable (SFAIRP), to assist Rail Safety Workers (RSWs) to move with ease between employers and operate on different networks.

To ensure our contracted workforce meets fitness for duty and competency obligations under the Rail Safety National Law (RSNL) and WHS legislative requirements, Aurizon uses the Rail Industry Worker (RIW) Program.

Minimum qualification and competency requirements
  • Each contracted RSW must hold the applicable Aurizon Job Role as per the RIW National Track Access Matrix. This matrix can be accessed here.
  • RSW training and competency must be current, valid, and reflected accordingly on the RIW card.  Workers must be associated with Aurizon for RIW profile visibility.
  • Non-compliance may result in RSWs being asked to leave the site.
  • For training and competency verification, refer to Network Operators Matrices - Rail Industry Worker.
