Aurizon has continued to undertake an upgrade of our payroll system to improve the technology, systems and processes that support this important part of our business.
Through the upgrade, we identified an inconsistency between the way we express contractual annual salaries and the way we process fortnightly pay for employees under Total Fixed Remuneration (TFR) arrangements.
This issue was communicated to affected current and former employees in September 2019 and has been rectified.
In continuing the upgrade of our payroll system, we have since identified that superannuation has not been correctly contributed for some categories of wage and salary payments. This matter also relates to how quarterly superannuation contributions were converted based on Aurizon’s fortnightly pay cycle, for some employees on annualised salary arrangements.
This has resulted in overpayments and underpayments of superannuation contributions for some current and former employees.
Aurizon is paying any underpayment of superannuation contributions in relation to this matter and has updated the payroll system to rectify this inconsistency moving forward.
Aurizon does not intend to recover any overpayments and any underpayments will be paid with interest in relation to this matter.
Paying our employees’ superannuation correctly is important and we apologise.
