Aurizon announces latest recipients of its Community Giving Fund
23 regional charities to benefit from funding from Australia’s largest rail freight company
As part of Aurizon’s ongoing commitment to supporting and engaging with the local community, the Company provides much needed financial assistance to community organisations through its Giving Fund.
Managing Director & CEO Andrew Harding said the Community Giving Fund enables Aurizon and its people to give back to the communities in which they live and work.
“We are extremely proud to be able to support the important work that these local charities do in our area of operations,” he said.
“Overall, 23 grants in this round will help local projects and initiatives that aim to improve education, community safety, environment, and health & wellbeing.
“Following the challenging year for all of us, we are pleased to support charities in our communities delivering programs and in particular under the health & wellbeing and safety categories.
“In Central Queensland, Domestic Violence Resource Service has found that demand for its service has increased due to COVID-19. They will use our funding towards the purchase of a vehicle, allowing them to attend court and support women with their domestic violence court applications.
“In Western Australia, Foodbank WA (FBWA) have identified a need for emergency food relief for vulnerable Indigenous families in the regional town of Mullewa. With approximately 30 families impacted by unemployment and a lack of transport, FBWA will provide emergency hampers filled with essential items every fortnight or weekly, depending on the need.
Got your Back Sista Ltd., in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales, will use our funding for their Empowerment Programs. These assist women that are driven into poverty due to domestic violence to find the strength to rebuild their self-esteem, confidence and resilience.
“There were many notable projects submitted for consideration this round and I would like to thank each and every one of those community groups that took the time to apply.”
