About the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity in Aurizon’s Technology and Facilities team for an experienced Principal of Facilities Safety and Security. This role reports directly to the Manager of Real Estate Asset Management & Workplace and will partner with senior facilities leaders and their teams to deliver strategic safety, security, health, and environment initiatives aligned with Aurizon's vision and goals. We are looking for someone who challenges the status quo, makes challenging decisions and approaches work with curiosity and a continual improvement mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement a compliance framework to ensure adherence to legislative obligations and best safety and security practices across the national property portfolio and within contracts with Facilities Management service providers.
  • Collaborate with corporate peers to align enterprise and business unit safety, security, health, and environment activities.
  • Provides strategic facilities safety, security and compliance advice and coaching to facilities and business unit leaders.Identify and share key business challenges and opportunities with corporate partners to collaboratively design and deliver solutions.
  • Execute business unit-specific improvement and innovation opportunities, ensuring alignment with corporate activities and effective change management.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and ensure compliance with safety, security, health, and environment-related statutory, regulatory, and contractual obligations, working closely with relevant corporate specialists.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the effectiveness of safety policies, programs, and processes, providing feedback for improvements.
  • Foster a high-performance culture by embodying Aurizon's values, meeting performance standards, and demonstrating safety leadership.

About You:

Preferred Qualifications/Certifications:

  • Safety and/or security related field qualifications or certifications.
  • Demonstrated experience with safety and security legislation and regulations.
  • Over 5 years of safety and security management experience in a heavy industry environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and principles within a large and diverse organization.
  • High-level skills in research, analysis, and development of preventative strategies for emergency responses, disaster and crisis management, and security arrangements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including initiative and judgment to support continuous improvement in organizational objectives.
  • High-level project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing and preparing emergency and security response plans, training materials, detailed communications, and monitoring and measuring implemented recommendations.
