About the role: As part of our commitment to invest in technology, processes, and people to unlock safety and productivity benefits, Aurizon has made the decision to continue with the deployment of the European Train Control System (ETCS) on its Central Queensland electric fleet.

Aurizon’s application of ETCS technology onto our heavy-haul coal fleet is known as TrainGuard. Equipment is installed on-board locomotives which continuously supervises train speed and signals through associated centralised and trackside equipment.

This project is well underway, and we are looking for an experienced and Installation / Construction Manager to assist in the embedding of this new technology.

  • Ensure all installation and construction activities under supervision comply with the relevant Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Legislation as well as the enterprise’s Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Standards, Policies and Procedures.
  • Provide input into the design development, constructability and planning of the TrainGuard solution.
  • Develop and implement the Construction Management Plan for the TrainGuard Project in accordance with the project scope as well as any enterprise and/or legal requirements i.e. Principal Contractor requirements, including the development, implementation or review of Safe Working Methods Statements (SWMS), risk assessments etc.
  • Identify, acquire, integrate and manage the internal and/or external resources required to complete the project construction activities i.e. coordinate internal construction resources, and/or develop scopes of work and assist with the procurement of contract construction packages.
  • Manage, monitor and control onsite construction activities through the use of: pre-start briefs; direct supervision; onsite inspections, audits etc. 
  • Ensure the construction work complies with the design and engineering specifications through the establishment of suitable quality assurance regime, including testing, commissioning, and verification activities.

About you: 

  • A Tertiary Qualification in either; Engineering, Construction or Project Management, or an equivalent engineering trade qualifications.
  • Industry recognised qualifications/certifications in Project Management.
  • 10 years+ experience in the development, planning and delivery of related projects
  • Extensive knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Legislation as well as principles of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Standards, Policies and Procedures.
  • High level of operational management skills, especially in leading and managing a integrated  team with particular emphasis on operating in a dynamic operational railway environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of project management methodologies, tools and structure.
  • High level of skill in the development of common goals and strong working relationships between senior managers, key internal and external stakeholders and operational staff.
  • High level of interpersonal, communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and influencing skills that build and sustain productive relationships and partnerships.
  • High level of skill in analysis, interpretation and problem solving relevant to a high stress, ambiguous and fast changing environment.
