Locomotive Driver

Our Bulk West team has signed a new contract with Mineral Resources Limited (MinRes) to be the exclusive rail operator for haulage of iron ore from Koolyanobbing mine to Aurizon's Esperance Terminal, shunting into the Port of Esperance, rollingstock leasing and maintenance.

Aurizon has provided rail haulage and associated services to MinRes since early 2020. The new contract increases train services from 12 to 20 per week, commenced in early November 2023.

This will allow Aurizon to again grow its workforce in the west, with recruitment underway for qualified drivers in the Esperance and Kalgoorlie Regions.

About The Role:

  • Operation of locomotives including mainline, shunting and yard operations.
  • Examine and certify trains as ready for departure
  • Apply 'best practice' train management techniques to ensure efficient and safe train operations.
  • Work in accordance with Aurizon's safety and operational standards and procedures
  • Contribute to continuous performance improvement
  • Work in accordance with Aurizon's award and other industrial agreements relevant to the position of Locomotive Driver 
  • Provide excellent customer service

About You:

  • Certificate IV in Rail Operations
  • Experience in WA Safeworking Systems
  • Current unrestricted driving licence
  • A strong commitment to safety
  • Ability to work a 24/7 shift work roster including availability to work weekends
  • Willingness to work book off’s as rostered
  • Commitment to Aurizon values and a willingness to embrace a diverse work environment

Successful candidates will be required to provide evidence of the units of competence successfully attained from the TLI 42615 Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Rail Operations).
