Aurizon’s Coal business in Queensland continues to thrive in 2023! Our Coal EA 2023 provides qualified drivers with a minimum of $150k per annum based on an average 80hr fortnight.  We are seeking to employ Qualified Locomotive Drivers to be based across a variety of sites throughout Regional Queensland. These roles will be suited to an individual who is able to display superior teamwork skills, flexibility, a high level of safety awareness and excellent customer service.

We currently have the following depots looking to recruit qualified drivers

Bluff (near Blackwater)  depot is based less than 2 hours west of Rockhampton.  The medium sale price in Blackwater was $163k last year with an average house rental costing around $200-$300.  Aurizon will provide a rental subsidy of up to 90% of the average RTA medium rent for the region for drivers relocating to the region as well as providing relocation assistance of up to $15k to assist with the cost of moving/relocating.  Alternative accommodation options including train crew quarters and shared housing may be available depending on demand.  More information on the Blackwater region

Coppabella (near Moranbah) This depot is based less than 2 hours west of Mackay and 40 mins to the thriving town of Moranbah.  The medium sale price in Moranbah was $330k last year with an average house rental costing around $425 p/w.  Aurizon will provide a rental subsidy of up to 90% of the average RTA medium rent for the region for drivers relocating to the region as well as providing relocation assistance of up to $15k to assist with the cost of moving/relocating.  Alternative accommodation options including train crew quarters may be available depending on demand.  More information on the Moranbah region

Jilalan (Sarina) this busy central QLD depot is based near Sarina and only 40 mins to Mackay.  Beautiful beaches and its proximity to the Whitsundays contribute to making this depot a highly sought after depot.  Average house prices are still a very affordable $385k with many housing options much less.  The average rental price is around $330 per week.  More information about Mackay region

Pring (Bowen) Love fishing? Bowen is a coastal town in the Whitsunday region. This is our smallest Coal depot in the Central QLD Coal Network and has a friendly and laid back feel.  Bowen's medium house price is a reasonable $385k with units around $266k.  The rental market is a little tight but there is currently but prices for a house start from $385 per week. More information about the Bowen region

Now you have made your decision on location check out below what we are looking for in a driver. 

About the role:

  • Operation of locomotives including mainline, shunting and marshalling.
  • Examine and certify trains as ready for departure.
  • Work in accordance with Aurizon's safety and operational standards and procedures.
  • Maintain a high level of on-time running.
  • Prepare and conduct brake testing on locomotives.
  • Provide high quality customer service to enable Aurizon to meet its set business objectives. 

About you:  

  • Strong commitment to safety and the Aurizon Safety Strategy “I Know Safe, I Choose Safe”.
  • Must be available to work 24/7 shift roster.
  • Experience in QLD Safeworking System is advantageous but not essential.
  • Extensive freight and/or heavy haulage locomotive driving experience.
  • A certificate IV in Rail Operations.
  • Current unrestricted Class C drivers licence.

Successful candidates will need to provide evidence of the units of competence successfully attained from the TLI 42615 Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Rail Operations).
